CIVILIAN. THREAT. SHELTER.
speculative design
In 1933, Franklin Roosevelt created a pre-nuclear council that coordinated emergency programs for the defense of the United States. This program later became more urgent when the Soviet Union successfully tested its first nuclear bomb. As of 2017, this program receives little to no funding and is on the brink of extinction. This project is about the political issues surrounding the 45th president of the United States that are alarming with the threats of “Totally destroying with fire and fury” and with the subtle comments with no explanation, “The calm before the storm.” This kind of speech calls for preparation for an inevitable part of our culture, with or without the aid of democracy.
